The structure and occupant restraint systems combined reasonably well to give acceptable protection from serious head and chest injuries.
The passenger compartment held its shape well in both tests, with the exception of the driver's floor space. This was severely deformed in the offset crash test and resulted in poor protection from lower leg injury.
A driver's air bag is standard on all models. A passenger air bag is standard on the Vti-S variant only. Driver's air bags were fitted to both test vehicles.
The front seat belts have height-adjustable upper anchorages and the seat belt buckles are mounted on the seats. These features improve the fit of the seat belt. A lap only seat belt is fitted to the centre rear seat. A lap/sash seat belt is safer than a lap only seat belt. A seat belt warning light is provided.
The driver's head was cushioned by the airbag but the impact was fairly severe. The head had moved deeply into the air bag at this time and it is possible that the air bag had just bottomed out. The passenger's head did not hit anything. The driver's knees hit the dash. The passenger's knees hit the glovebox.

The passenger compartment held its shape well in the full frontal crash. The roof was creased near the centre pillars and the front pillar was bent outwards slightly. The front part of the driver's floor space was pushed back by suspension components.
All doors remained closed during the crash. After the crash all doors could be easily opened.
The front part of the driver's floor was pushed rearwards a substantial 34cm. The dash was pushed 8cm towards the driver. The roof buckled upwards above the driver's door and the front pillar on the driver's side was bent and deformed. The width of the driver's doorway shortened by 9cm.
