ANCAP crash test results

Holden Vectra | 1997

Overall evaluation:

The Vectra performed reasonably well in the offset crash test. The passenger compartment held its shape except for moderate footwell intrusion. The driver had an airbag and was well protected from serious head injury. The passenger did not have an airbag but was also well protected.

Protection from serious leg injury was poor for the driver. In the side impact crash there was a high risk of life threatening chest injury for the driver and a moderate risk of abdomen injury.

Safety features

A driver's airbag is standard equipment.

The front seat belt buckles are mounted on the seats and the upper anchorages are adjustable. These features improve the fit of the seat belt.

Lap/sash (3 point) seat belts are fitted to all seats, including the centre rear seat.

Restraints:

Offset Crash Test

The airbag cushioned the head of the driver and contact was stable. There was excessive upward movement of the steering column and protection from serious head injury was rated as adequate. There was a moderate risk of serious chest injury.

The passenger's head did not hit anything and protection from serious head injury was good. However, there was a moderate risk of serious chest injury.

Side Impact Crash Test (no front passenger)

Protection for the driver's head and pelvis was rated as good but there was a high risk of serious chest injury and a moderate risk of serious abdomen injury.

Structure: Good

Offset Crash Test

The passenger compartment held its shape well in the offset crash test, except for excessive footwell intrusion. The front part of the driver's floor was pushed rearwards 15cm.

The brake pedal moved rearwards by 13cm. The roof buckled upwards above the driver and the width of the driver's doorway shortened by 5cm. All doors remained closed during the crash.

After the crash extra effort was required to open the driver's door.
