Important notes:

1. The figures are of current vehicles recorded in the Motor Vehicle Register, excluding vehicles with cancelled or lapsed registration.
2. The mean age is the sum of the products of vehicle totals multiplied by age, divided by total vehicles.
3. The mean age of the national vehicle fleet is not available prior to 1999.
4. The age of the fleet is a conservative estimate only. The provision of the year first registered instead of the vehicle year (ie, either the year of manufacture or the model year as denoted by the manufacturer) for some used imported vehicles, may result in the overall age of the vehicle fleet being understated.
