Date Revision no. Comment
10 June 2008 Revision 8 This revision reminds importers of the heavy-vehicle brake standards coming into force on 1 July 2008 and also notes that noise level requirements came into force on 1 June 2008.
8 May 2008 Revision 7 This revision advises importers about the changed rules for importing immigrants' vehicles of Classes MA, MB or MC; or 'special interest vehicles', that do not meet frontal impact or emissions standards.
29 November 2007 Revision 6

This revision advises importers about changes to the exhaust emissions standards requirements, which come into force on 3 January 2008.

31 October 2006 Revision 5 The lists have been extended to include standards for heavy-vehicle brakes that will be introduced through the Heavy-vehicle Brakes Rule, which comes into force on 1 March 2007. Imported heavy vehicles of Classes MD3, MD4, ME, NB and NC that are first registered in New Zealand after 1 July 2008 will need to meet an approved brake standard.  In addition vehicles of Classes NB or NC intended to be used to tow heavy trailers will in most cases need to be fitted with ABS, EBS or LSV. Vehicles of Class TC and TD first registered in New Zealand on or after 1 July 2008 will in most cases need to be fitted with ABS, EBS or LSV.
28 October 2005 Revision 4 The lists of standards have been clarified in that compliance with a more recent version of an approved standard is accepted.
15 September 2005 Revision 3 The standards requirements have been updated in accordance with three amendment Rules that came into force on 15 September 2005, namely Tyres and Wheels Amendment 2005, Vehicle Lighting Amendment 2005, Frontal Impact Amendment 2005 and Glazing, Windscreen Wipe and Wash, and Mirrors Amendment 2005. This has resulted in a change to the space-saver tyre standards (Class MA), clarification of side-marker lamp requirements for all classes of heavy motor vehicle, and removal of all standards requirements for windscreen wipe and wash systems.
27 February 2005 Revision 2 With the Vehicle Lighting Rule coming into effect all the items in the Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1990 are transferred to Land Transport Rules and the infosheet presents the new regime.
October 2003 Revision 1 The Second Schedule was updated to take into account the revocation of various items as they were transferred to Land Transport Rules. At that time only the lighting requirements remained in the schedule.
March 2000 Original version This infosheet presented the vehicle standards requirements in the Second Schedule of the Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1990.
