Take a break - stay fit to drive these holidays

Land Transport New Zealand is encouraging drivers to stay fit to drive by taking frequent breaks on holiday journeys this year.

Land Transport has collaborated with ACC, Transit New Zealand and NZ Police on a series of holiday-themed radio, print and billboard advertisements targeting driver stress, impatience and fatigue.

A key feature of the campaign will be 16 region-specific billboards with localised messages urging drivers to take a break in the area.

“The holidays are a time to relax, but there are extra pressures facing drivers at this time of year. Taking breaks on long trips is a great way to ease that pressure,” said Land Transport NZ Advertising Manager Paul Graham.

On average, 18 people have been killed and more than 400 injured during each of the past five Christmas/New Year holiday periods.

Editors’ note: The attached files of region-specific campaign billboards may be reprinted. Sound files of radio advertisements are also available on request.
