Green light for Glenfield Road upgrade

Travel times will be reduced and safety improved on Glenfield Road in North Shore City with Land Transport New Zealand's decision to approve funding for upgrades.

The Land Transport New Zealand Board has agreed to contribute $5.67 million to the project, which has a total cost of $10.7 million. Improvements to be made over the next three years include the widening of Glenfield Road to four lanes between Bentley Avenue and Sunset Road, the provision of cycleways and bus bays in each direction and improvements to intersections along the route.

Board chair Dr Jan Wright says the upgrade will reduce travel times on the route, improve the efficiency and safety of intersections for all road users and improve accessibility for cyclists.

"The existing route suffers from significant congestion and the current intersections are not cyclist or pedestrian friendly. Providing a uniform four-lane carriageway, widening intersections to include turning lanes and providing dedicated cycle lanes and bus bays will make the route safer and more efficient for all road users," she says.
