Information

When you can apply for a full licence

See the previous section Holding a restricted licence to find out when you can move to a full licence and how you can reduce the required time by completing an approved course.

How to apply for a full licence

When you're ready to apply for a full licence, you'll need to go to a driver licensing agent and do the following:

  • Complete an application form. (You'll be asked if you want your licence to identify you as an organ donor.)
  • Pay the appropriate fees.
  • Pass the full licence test. (This involves a thorough examination of your riding skills and how you detect and respond to driving hazards. All restricted licence holders must pass this test to get their full licence.)
  • Pass an eyesight screening check (or provide an eyesight certificate)
  • Have your photograph taken.
  • Provide your signature.

Fees

  • The application fee is $44.30.
  • The test fee is $70.80.

What happens after you pass the test

When you pass the full licence test you'll be given a temporary licence, valid for 21 days, to use until you receive your full licence in the mail.

Your full licence should arrive in two to three weeks.

You must carry your driver licence at all times when you drive.
