About your photo driver licence

Your new licence card will be durable and portable - and will fit easily into a wallet or purse.

It will show your photo and your signature. (Your digital photo will be stored by Land Transport New Zealand, so it can be quickly and easily replaced if you misplace your licence - you won't need to have your photo retaken.)

Security

The digital photo and signature are encrypted for enhanced security, making it harder for licences to be forged.

The barcode is also a security feature. It contains your driver licence number, your driver licence card number and a two-digit quality control number. All the information contained in this barcode is printed directly below the barcode.

You'll get to choose whether you want your residential or postal address on your licence.
