Land Transport NZ stakeholder surveys

Land Transport New Zealand values the working relationships it has with its stakeholders and see them as crucial to promoting land transport sustainability and safety. To gauge the health of these working relationships Land Transport NZ carries out an annual stakeholder survey. 

2007/08 survey

Target audience and sample

Around 525 Land Transport NZ stakeholders from road controlling authorities, road users groups, Regional Council’s and government agencies were invited to take part in an on-line survey from 18th April until the 26th May 2008.

Of the 457 who received the survey, 195 completed it, a response rate of 43%.  This was 7% lower than the 50% response rate recorded last year.the 2007 survey, which gave Land Transport NZ, an approval rating  of 79%, a 2% increase over the previous survey.

The same survey questionnaire was used in 2008 as in 2007 which enabled comparisons to be made throughout the report between performance this year and last year.

Research objectives

The primary objectives of the study were to:

  • Provide annual statistics for reporting against Land Transport NZ’s performance measures
  • Gauge the effectiveness of Land Transport NZ’s stakeholder relationships and explore concerns and interests of stakeholders and,
  • Assess performance of and provide feedback regarding individual key projects.

The secondly objectives were to measure how effective Land Transport NZ is in meeting the following the five objectives set out in the New Zealand Transport Strategy:

  • Assisting economic development
  • Assisting safety and personal security
  • Improving access and personal mobility
  • Protecting and promoting public health
  • Ensuring environmental sustainability.

2007 survey

Around 200 stakeholders from road controlling authorities, road users groups, Regional Council’s and government agencies took part in the 2007 survey, which gave Land Transport NZ, an approval rating  of 79%, a 2% increase over the previous survey

The 2007 survey shows stakeholders value Land Transport New Zealand's work in:

  • promoting safe land transport
  • keeping stakeholders well informed
  • providing quality assistance and advice.

Some of the areas identified in the survey where Land Transport New Zealand  can make further improvements are:

  • promoting sustainable transport
  • providing training
  • simplifying funding processes.

2005/06 survey

August 2006

A survey of Land Transport NZ stakeholders was carried out between 29th of May and 19th of June 2006. A total of 155 completed surveys were received from a pool of 404 stakeholders who were invited to participate in the stakeholder survey.
